What to Expect After Surgery

• Swelling, bruising, and soreness in the palm and finger are normal.
• Tightness or stiffness when bending and straightening your finger is expected due to inflammation.
• You will have 2–3 sutures (stitches) in your palm, which will be removed at your first post-op visit (about 2 weeks after surgery).

Wound Care

• Keep the incision covered with a clean bandage to protect against infection.
• You may shower after surgery, but avoid soaking your hand in water (bathtubs, swimming, dishwater) until stitches are removed.
• Gently pat the incision dry and replace the bandage if it becomes wet.

Activity

• Begin moving and stretching your finger right after Bend your finger towards your palm and extend the fingers 10 times. Do that 3 times a day. Please hold the stretches for 15 seconds.
• Use your hand for light activities as Heavier use can be added gradually as pain improves.

Pain Management

• Ice and elevate your hand to reduce swelling.
• Take prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication as directed.

Follow-Up

• Your first post-op appointment will be in 2 weeks for suture removal and wound check.

Call Our Office If You Notice:

• Redness, warmth, or drainage at the incision site
• Fever or chills
• Severe or worsening pain
• Inability to move your finger despite exercises
• New or worsening numbness or tingling
